Blue Screen Crash Help?

My computer keeps getting the blue screen crash, or The Blue Screen of Death as its called. I'm using Windows XP on an HP Laptop, and I can usually tell when its gonna happen. For example I will be on the net and all of the sudden it gets real slow and I can't click on anything or even exit out of the browser and then it crashes. Its not like the normal blue screen crash where it stays up there long enough to read whats wrong and everything is readable. For me its only up for like 3 secs and everything is blurry like the letters are doubled on top of each other but aren't aligned. Then once the computer restarts most of the time something comes up that says its gonna run a disk check. All my drivers are up to date and I have downloaded Registry Mechanic cause I heard that it helped. I don't know if something is wrong with my mother board,my hard drive, or something else. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
