Once a platter breaks is it still readable?

If it breaks, is crushed, is partially burned or any number of other catastrophes can take place before a platter is unreadable. Because of the information's magnetic basis a broken platter will of course completely disrupt the information along the physical crack. However the rest of the information can still be recovered. It is only a matter of the tools at hand. Of course a lamen or the average joe bloe or mary jane couldn't have much success at replacing a damaged platter with a good one. The environment usually will be very harmful to the platter. The recovery process on the other hand can ONLY be done by a qualified team. There are many many sites out there which clearly state that recovery is possible. a href="http://www.zimbio.com/member/arthormike/articles/SeWIJGlVta1/Save+Valuable+Data+Fire+Damaged+Burnt+Hard" rel="nofollow"http://www.zimbio.com/member/arthormike/…/a is one of those many sites. In a nutshell ABSOLUTELY YES IT IS.
